Sir Emeka Offor Foundation Releases List of Higher Education Beneficiaries of Second Major Book Donation
Second Distribution of Books and Supplies Set for October 27, 2012
October 16, 2012 - The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), a non-governmental, philanthropic organization focused on youth employment, families, education, healthcare and infrastructure development, today released the list of schools and public libraries selected as beneficiaries of its second donation of books and other supplies. The Foundation imported large consignment of books, computers and school supplies worth several million dollars.

It is the conviction of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, which supports President Jonathan's PET project, “Back to Books,” that the way to start the true transformation of Nigeria is by transforming the individual, especially the youth, and quality education is the key. SEOF is collaborating with Books for Africa, a US-based agency in this project.
Last year, more than 50 higher institutions and public libraries, over 100 Secondary and over 100 Primary schools across the country benefited from the first batch of the distribution. The feedback is that their libraries are richer for it. The students and readers are better serviced with a variety of quality books. Also last year, the foundation sponsored the delivery of five 40-foot containers of books, computers and school supplies to The Gambia. The feedback is the same.
The second distribution exercise in Nigeria is slated for October 27, 2012 at the SEOF centre at Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The benefitting institutions this time shall be more than double the number of last year.
The books are for varied fields of knowledge -- Agric Sciences, Business and Economics, Computer Sciences, Communication skills, English Literature, Medical and Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Biology, Sociology and Anthropology, French Language Studies, Religious Studies, Engineering, Law (including some sets of West Core complete Law libraries), Assorted Reference booksand an array of General Library and leisure books among others. They also include some quantities of desktop and laptop computers. Institutions will recieve one but mostly a combination of some of the above subjects.
It is expected that by the third batch slated for next year, all higher institutions in Nigeria, as well as many more of the primary and secondary schools, would have been covered.
This year's distribution ceremony is slated to commence by 12 noon and is to be graced by top federal and state government officials, members of the diplomatic corp and representatives of Books for Africa from the U.S.A.
