Kaztec Engineering Limited, an Abuja based engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commission (EPCIC) company and owners of Ekulo Cheyenne and Ekulo Tornado said that Ekulo Cheyenne is now at OML 123, and had commenced work for Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.

In a statement released in Abuja today, the Project Manager, Kaztec Engineering Limited, Rick Reggio said ‘the 350 ft by 100 ft by 25 ft depth pipelay/ derrick and construction barge, Ekulo Cheyenne is expected to execute TB – 1921 Call-Off Contract for installation of subsea pipelines and topsides for Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited. This installation-focused contract will enable the various facilities currently being designed and manufactured to be collected, shipped to site, craned into position and hooked up together with the laying of interconnecting pipelines and installation of associated riser systems’.

Expatiating on the project, David Jeeves, Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QAQC) Manager said, ‘the project is designed to meet field development goals including ‘flares down’, wherein a new facility is planned to expand the existing Adanga complex, to provide gas compression and additional production separation capacity, with central power generation for the entire Adanga complex.

He also said that ‘ Ekulo Cheyenne, whose pipe stingers and pipe tensioners were recently replaced to make the pipelay barge capable of laying up to 36 inch pipes, is currently certified by the American Bureau of Shipping’.

Reacting to questions on the deployment of Ekulo Cheyenne to OML 123, the Chairman of Kaztec Engineering Limited Sir Emeka Offor said that ‘the acquisition of Ekulo Cheyenne is in line with the vision of Kaztec Engineering Limited being at the vanguard of the Nigerian Government Policy for ‘local content’ in the oil and gas industry. The fact that Kaztec Engineering Limited was chosen to handle this contract, is an eloquent testimony of the trust and confidence that Addax Petroleum Development Limited management have in Kaztec Engineering Limited especially, and local EPCs generally’, he concluded.

Commenting on the suitability of Ekulo Cheyenne for projects of this nature, the Kaztec Project Consultant, Engineer Onochie Anyaoku said that ‘being one of the biggest pipelay and construction barges in the entire Gulf of Guinea, going by its lifting capacity, (main fixed lifting capacity of 850tons) the Ekulo Cheyenne is well equipped to perform most of the call-off contract jobs in the TB 1921 contract agreement, and we strongly believe that it would do well in the field.’

Explaining the company’s interest and commercial diversity of Ekulo Cheyenne, the Chief Operating Officer, Kaztec Engineering Limited, Ike Okpala said that ‘ apart from using the barge for projects like the one it is involved in at the moment for Addax Petroleum Development Limited, Ekulo Cheyenne is also available for hire to any company that may need its services.’

He urged companies involved in the laying of pipelines and offshore construction work to take advantage of this offer.
