Henry Aiseye Wins 5th Chrome Tennis Classic

The tennis tournament saw Nigeria’s number’s two Henry Aiseye defeating number 1 Babalola, to emerge the champion at the singles tournament. Austine Nwokedi emerged 3rd and Sunday Maku 4th.

The Chrome Group, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous multinational businesses with subsidiaries operating in oil and gas exploration and production, oil and gas servicing, engineering, insurance, logistics and power industries, sponsored the tournement, which was held at the Nnewi sports club.

This year the tournement saw the participation of Nigeria’s ranked number one player: U.S.-based Mumuni Babalola. The tournament also welcomed Nigeria’s number two Henry Aiseye, Nigeria’s former number two, Turkey-based Austine Nwokedi and Nigeria’s number four, Sunday Maku. Other rated players who graced the tournament included Albert Bikom, Nigeria’s number 10 and Ugochukwu Njoku, Nigeria’s 34.

The Chairman of The Chrome Group, sports-loving Sir Emeka Offor underwrote the cost of the return tickets (local and international) of the invited ranked players to the tune of N700,000 ($4,270). The champion of the keenly contested tournament Henry Aiseye carted away the sum of $10,000, while the second runner up Mumuni Babalola collected a sum of $7,000. The 3rd and 4th runners up Austine Nwokedi and Sunday Maku each bagged sums of $5,000 and $3,000 respectively. All these are courtesy of Chrome Group. 

The other two ranked players who did not play were also rewarded with a sum of N250,000 each. In addition, the players were fully kitted by Chrome Group with branded tennis Rackets, shoes, shirts, socks, face caps and towels.

The tournament also saw competition amongst members of Nnewi sports club in doubles games. The pair of Ikebudu and Eze Okeke emerged champions with Messrs Sunday Ikwuazom and Ajayi coming as second runner up. The third runner up was the pair of Messrs Cosmas Agbasielo and Tony Nduka, while 4th was the pair of Ahamefula Charles and Chukwunonye Bonny. 

For their prizes, the champions won two new super Motorcycles, the second runner up two Generator sets, third runner up two flat Televisions sets and the fourth two Microwaves machines.
In addition to these all the about hundred members of Nnewi Tennis club who were present were also kitted with branded Tennis Shoes, T-shirts, socks, face caps, and towels by Chrome Group.

The tournament had a lot of dignitaries and celebrities including the Governor of Imo State, the Chairman of Chrome Group watching and also Nollywood stars Akin and Pawpaw. It was rounded up with a gala night that lasted till dawn hosted by Sir Emeka Offor at his Country home at which the best dancers went home with a total sum of N500,000.
