ABUJA, Nigeria, May 10, 2019 – Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Anambra State today conferred an honourary Doctorate Degree of Entrepreneurship on Sir Emeka Offor, the Executive Vice Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies. He is an entrepreneur that started from ground up, working and surmounting obstacles along the way as he produced many other entrepreneurs. His mercantile entrepreneurship has been able to provide job opportunities and charity many people have benefitted from and continue to benefit from. It was Warren Buffet, another entrepreneur that said, “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” This statement best describes the person of Sir Emeka Offor and the reason today’s event is taking place.

Sir Emeka Offor is the Executive Vice Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies, a Nigerian Company, which he founded in 1993. He is a dynamic, astute and adventurous entrepreneur with over three decades of entrepreneurial experience. His ascendency to the top bracket of the business world started in Warri, Delta State, where he got employed as a Transport clerk in Rivways Lines Nigeria Limited, a Nigerian Company engaged in importation of Packed/Bulk bitumen. From being an employee he transited to purchasing small quantities of bitumen which he supplied to smaller Companies and after 2 years of small business enterprise, Sir Emeka began the supply of bitumen to big players including Hardel & Enic, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, Ozigbo Engineering Company, Guffanti Nigeria limited, Feugerole Nigeria Limited and many others. Between 1981 and 1982, then young entrepreneur, he supplied all the bitumen used by Alden Volker Nigeria Limited in the construction of Onne Port and has never looked back ever since in his business expansion, experience and productivity.

Consequent upon his business breakthrough, Chrome Oil Services Limited was born in 1985. He nurtured and managed the little company with his natural business shrewdness and insight. In 34years, the little company has grown into a vast business empire with interests in Oil & Gas, Insurance & Finance, the Power Sector, Telecommunications, Media and Logistics both in Nigeria and Overseas under Chrome Group of Companies. Today, some of the companies under Chrome Group of companies are Kaztec Engineering Limited, Global Scansystems Nigeria Limited, Nimek Investment Limited, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Elcrest Exploration and Production Company Limited, Chrome Insurance Brokers Limited, Inland Containers Nigeria Limited and so many other thriving subsidiaries.

He has been able to impact society greatly from the wealth God has blessed him with through his foundation, Sir Emeka Offor Foundation – SEOF. SEOF in collaboration with Books for Africa (BFA) has donated over 27.3 million USD worth of books, computers and other educational materials to schools and educational Institutions in Nigeria and about 19 other African Countries. Nnamdi Azikiwe University is one of the benefiting institutions of SEOF’s book distribution program. The institution has received over 10,000 (Ten Thousand) volumes of books covering E-Library, Law, Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science, Social Sciences and other disciplines. Apart from various programs SEOF carry out in educational sector, they also undertake other programs in Health, Empowerment and infrastructures. Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Anambra state has chosen to honor Sir Emeka Offor by conferring him with Doctor of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship in recognition for his achievements as an entrepreneur of repute. The event is billed to start from 10am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University convocation ground in the capital city of Awka, Anambra State.
